Clover 3% Surcharge Rate
iSmart Payments is offering to Utah merchants a 3% surcharging rate that helps Clover merchants reduce expenses by allowing them to add a percentage fee at checkout. This is to all credit card transactions, which is paid by the end consumer. We offer merchants an integrated surcharging product all while adhering to card brand regulations and being in compliance.
How Your Clover Receipts Will Show
Merchants that surcharge must disclose the surcharge dollar amount on every receipt, in addition to posting clear and prominent disclosures at the point-of-entry and point-of-sale. Your new Clover POS device will do this for you. iSmart Payments will help with the set up.

“We impose a surcharge of 3.00% on the transaction amount when paying with a credit card, which is not greater than our cost of acceptance.
We do not surcharge debit cards.”
Clover Credit Card 3% Surcharging Rate
The merchant discount rate is equivalent to a 3% surcharge rate:
- Surcharge Rate: 3%
- Merchant charges the consumer 3% on the sale amount
- Example: A $100 sale plus a 3% surcharge results in a total sale amount of $103.00 charged to the cardholder
- $100 (sale) plus (+) $3.00 (3% surcharge)= $103.00 (customer total)
- Discount Rate: 2.9126%
- Merchant is billed 2.9126% on the total amount of the transaction
- Example: Merchant is billed 2.9126% on the $103.00, which equals the $3.00 surcharge billed to the cardholder – merchant amount equates to the consumer surcharge amount
- $103.00 (settled) minus (-) $3.00 (discount rate)= $100 (merchant net funded)
Debit cards are not allowed for surcharging.
- Debit discount rate will be charged at 1.25%
- Debit transaction fee is $0.25
- ‘Debit‘ refers to the discount rate for non-PIN debit, PIN debit and PINLess transactions. Surcharge is not applied on debit (including signature, PIN and PINless) or prepaid card transactions
Registration & enrollment for surcharging.
- CardConnect (Clover) will register merchants with the card brands for participation in the surcharge program
- American Express: Merchants will be enrolled in OptBlue in order to accept and sucharge all American Express cards
- A $15.00 a month Surcharge Platform fee
